Goods and Services Tax i.e., GST would be a full-fledges VAT with total intergration of almost all indirect taxes on supply of goods and services, currently being levied separately by Centre and the States. There will be two streams of GST - the Central GST (CGST) and the States GST (SGST) to be administered by Centre and the States respectively. GST will minimise the cascading effect of taxing the taxes, and thus reduce the price of the goods and services. Although announced in 2006, this joint venture of Centure and the States is getting delayed.

This book has recorded the events on the road to GST and its travails and tribulations. It had also identified the reasons for the delay in its introduction and placed the issues before the readers while explaning the international practices. A reading of this book wiill prepare the taxpayers and the taxmen to understand the basis of GST, which is sure to come soon after the General Elections of 2014.
